About De Beauvoir Town

De Beauvoir Town
De Beauvoir Town

De Beauvoir Town is a district situated in the Borough of Hackney which falls partly within the Borough of Islington. The district is bordered by Kingsland Road on the east, Tottenham Road on the north, Southgate Road on the west, and Regent’s Canal on the south. These are all the official borders. The area that is presently occupied by De Beauvoir Town had remained an open country until the 1820s and there were a handful of grand houses.

There was a development of the southeastern corner lying between the Hertford Road and the Downham Road for industrial use in the year 1937. Following immediately after the area lying southward of the Downham Road was entirely included. The northern side of the road there was a development of the business sector that made way for a large number of residential properties being built. It was in the 1960s when northern part of the district lying between the Tottenham Road and the Buckingham Road started being built as the Kingsgate’s estate of the Borough of Hackney.

The nearest of the railway stations include the Dalston junction on the north east, whereas Haggerston is toward the southeastern direction. Both the railway stations lie on East London Line. The other stations include Dalston Kingston and the Essex Road. The Dalston junction is the nearest among the tube stations and was opened in the year 1932. The other tube stations include Old Street, Highbury and Islington, and Angel.
